Kapatid Ministry (KMI) began when Titus and Beth, together with their 3 children were led by God back to the Philippines to serve Him full time. Through the help of Sister Doreen Chan, FBC Mission Board adopted Titus and Beth as mission partners. On 21 September 2003, First Baptist Church commissioned Titus and Beth to be ministers of the Gospel to OFW families in Philippines.
Some families of OFWs were staying in depressed areas where vices and other petty crimes were rampant but considered normal and part of daily life. To prevent children from being exposed and normalized to such influences, KMI started the Feeding Program, Child Sponsorship Program, and the Child Care Centre.
Kapatid Ministry partnered with local Christian Churches and requested them to identify a certain area where they can gather less fortunate children, feed them once a week and teach them about the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
In partnership with AMG Skilled Hands Technological College (ASHTEC), KMI added the Out of School Youth
Program into its umbrella. This program caters to young people who cannot go to college due to families’ financial difficulties. KMI was able to send a number of young people (from 2005 until 2017) who are now earning a decent living and are able to help their families’ financial needs.
On April 2006, KMI was registered at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a Non-Stock/Non-Profit Organization.
In partnership with local churches, additional Feeding Centers were
established in the following communities: San Isidro, Nueva Ecija, San Jose, Nueva Ecija, Vicas 1 & Vicas 2, Caloocan City, Casillan and Cavite Plum, Nueva Ecija, and Floridablanca, Pampanga.
In August 2008, Titus initiated and organized the 6 big Filipino Churches within the Klang Valley to unite and reach out to as many Filipinos (30,000 Filipinos) as possible and to address the common problems, in coordination with the Philippine Embassy, being encountered by them while they are in Malaysia. On the same month, August, Titus and Beth went to Brunei to promote KMI to Filipinos working in Brunei.
A Church was planted at Amsic, Angeles City Feeding area. The construction of the church’s building was funded by a Korean Church.
Typhoon Ondoy brought much damage but also opened opportunities for KMI to assist various communities affected by the typhoon. Also in the same year, more feeding centers and day care centers were opened, more former out of school youth were able to enroll and study at AMG Skilled Hands Technological College, more families were brought to the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, more partners and friends were touched by God to share their blessings to the less fortunate especially after typhoon Ondoy.
KMI attempted to start a program for street dwellers - in partnership with local churches in Pampanga, Cebu, and Quezon City. The program included feeding, giving temporary shelter, sharing God's Word and livelihood.
5 Child Care centers for Nursery, Kinder, and Prep students were established in Bulacan, Laguna, and Quezon City. Instead of feeding the children from different centers once a week, KMI and the partner Church have gathered between 20 to 30 children/center with age range: 4-6 years old and belonging to the poorest of the poor and give them free education (Nursery, Kinder & Prep). We were able to establish Child Care Centres with the following churches:
1) Jesus Our Firm Foundation Christian Ministries, Bulacan (1 center)
2) Living Water Baptist Church, Bay Laguna (2 centers)
3) CIY CBC, Brgy. Capri, Novaliches (1 center)
4) CIY CBC, Brgy. Holy Spirit, Quezon City (1 center)
In November 14, KMI started its program among malnourished children. KMI has partnered with a local church who provides the venue and workers for this program and with Action International who provides the Manna Pack, a nutritious food from Minnesota, USA.
The Prison Ministry was also started in Iwahig Penal Colony in Palawan, in partnership with a local church. KMI sought to minister the Prison Inmates, specifically in Palawan, and their families here in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. We started the ministry because we found out most of the inmates in Palawan are never visited by their love ones, specially those from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
We went back to Iwahig Penal Colony in May of the same year for an Evangelistic Concert. We brought with us a Christian Singer and one Evangelist, praise God, many received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
We also expanded our partnership with local churches in ministering to OFW Families.
We also had a board meeting wherein one of the major agenda is the addition of board members that will support KMI in terms of partnership in prayer, partnership in planning and program formulation and partnership development with individuals, organizations and churches abroad.
Some supporters and donors have stopped sending their financial assistance due to their current financial standing. To sustain and expand the feeding program, we were blessed with the opportunity to collect breads from local bakeries and coffeeshops, such as Starbucks, Corretos, Madre and Figlio, Le Cour de France, and Breadtalk.
Assistance and donations in kind and cash were given to churches and some of their members, such 30 Boxes of used clothing, shoes, bedsheets, groceries, construction materials, mono block chairs and other items were sent to Tacloban, Bacolod, Cebu, Antique and other areas affected by typhoon Yolanda.
Also, Pantai Baptist Church's Mission Trip enabled us to conduct medical missions in various church planting communities in Caloocan City, Bulacan, and in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Titus and Beth Laxa stayed in KL, Malaysia for a period of 3 months (20 April to 17 July) to minister to OFW’s working in Casinos at Genting Highlands, OFW’s working in IT Industries at PJ and those OFW’s attending skills trainings in FWRC Philippine Embassy at KL.
We expanded to 132 feeding centers. We gave 900 vitamins donated by Pantai Baptist Church, Malaysia to children in selected feeding areas and to the sponsored children. We also conducted “Safe Child in Disaster Training for Kids” in partnership with Philippine Children’s Ministry Network (PCMN).
We visited Sabah for potential educational ministry
among children of illegal Filipinos. However on March 2020, the pandemic caused nationwide lockdown that lasted for almost more than a year.
Throughout the pandemic, from April to September 2020, we were able to distribute relief packs consisting of rice, groceries/food packs, face masks, face shields, alcohol, bath soaps and other essential items to families in our Feeding Centers, the Sponsored Children, and Senior Citizens.
On October & December, the Philippines was hit by 3 strong typhoons that brought heavy damages to the Northern and
Southern part of Luzon. Financial assistance were sent to KMI partner Pastors whose Churches and members’ houses
were damaged during the typhoon. Because of this, Feeding programs were started in Isabela, and Catanduanes.
Our founder, Bro. Titus Laxa, passed away on March 29, 2021.
In the 2nd year of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, we were blessed by God to be able to introduce the following programs:
In the 3rd year of the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, we were, by God's grace, able to continue and start the following programs:
Bro. Arwin and Sis. Amy Calansanan, former OFWs in Malaysia, joined Kapatid Ministry’s team as Partnership Coordinators.
We hosted 3 mission trips this year, one from the PJ CG of the Filipino Congregation of Kuala Lumpur Baptist Church (FCCC-KLBC), another one from First Baptist Church, Subang Jaya, Malaysia, and another one from Setiawan, Evangelist Michael. We praise God as they were able to visit the ministry, encourage the children and seniors through the Word of God they shared.
We also celebrated our 20th Anniversary on October 16, 2023, with Rev. Jessie Arce, Pastor of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Delaware, United States as our guest speaker.
